Excerpt from Strictures on the Letter of the Right Hon.: Edmund Burke, on the Revolution in France, and Remarks on Certain Occurrences That Took Place in the Last Session of Parliament Relative to That Event

It is a little remarkable that the first time Mr. Burke publickly censured the proceedings of the National Assembly, and declared himself an enemy to the Revolution in France, was on the occasion of Mr. Flood"s motion in the House of Commons the last Session of Parliament, for an enquiry into the state of the representation. Similar motions had been made at different periods by Mr. Sawbridge, and once by Mr. Pitt, which were negatived through the weight of that influence, which, in the opinion of the friends of the constitution, is a growing evil in the state.
